Wellbeing

At our school, we believe that Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is just as vital as academic achievement. Our approach helps students develop the skills to understand and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, make responsible decisions, and face life’s challenges with confidence. Through a variety of evidence-based programs and everyday classroom practices, we create a safe, supportive environment where students feel connected, valued, and empowered to grow.

Our comprehensive SEL framework is underpinned by our school values of Excellence, Respect, Resilience, and Integrity, and incorporates the Department of Education’s High Impact Wellbeing Strategies, the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program, The Resilience Project, and Play Is the Way. These programs and strategies work together to support the emotional development and wellbeing of all students. We are also committed to working closely with families, recognising that strong partnerships are key to supporting the wellbeing and personal development of every child.

School Values:

At our school, we are guided by the core values of Excellence, Respect, Resilience, and Integrity. These values shape our culture, guide our actions, and set high expectations for both students and staff. We strive for Excellence in all that we do, encouraging every student to achieve their personal best. We promote Respect by valuing diversity, listening to others, and treating everyone with kindness. Resilience is fostered through perseverance, optimism, and learning from challenges, while Integrity is at the heart of our community, as we act with honesty, fairness, and responsibility. Together, these values create a positive and supportive learning environment where every student can thrive.

High Impact Wellbeing Strategies:

The Victorian Department of Education’s High Impact Wellbeing Strategies are evidence-based practices designed to strengthen student wellbeing and enhance learning outcomes. These strategies focus on creating a positive school climate, fostering strong relationships, and supporting students' mental, emotional, and social development. By embedding practices such as consistent routines, student voice, emotional regulation strategies, and targeted support, schools are better equipped to meet the diverse needs of their students. At our school, we use these strategies as part of our everyday teaching and learning to ensure every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.

The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program has been developed by the Department of Education to support students in building healthy relationships, emotional literacy, and respect for self and others. It teaches age-appropriate strategies to help students understand and manage emotions, build empathy, resolve conflict, and make respectful choices. The program also addresses important topics such as gender equality and consent, promoting a safe and inclusive school environment. At our school, we deliver the RRRR curriculum as part of our commitment to student wellbeing, respectful behaviour, and lifelong social and emotional development.

The Resilience Project is a wellbeing program designed to help students build mental resilience and emotional strength through simple yet powerful strategies. Focused on the key pillars of Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness (GEM), the program encourages students to reflect on the positives in their lives, show kindness and understanding to others, and stay present in the moment. Through engaging lessons, stories, and activities, The Resilience Project supports students in developing healthier relationships, improved emotional regulation, and a more positive outlook on life. By engaging with the GEM principles, students also build emotional literacy—the ability to recognize, understand, and express their emotions effectively—which empowers them to navigate challenges with greater confidence and empathy.

Play Is the Way is a practical social and emotional learning program that uses guided play and group games to help students develop essential life skills such as teamwork, resilience, empathy, self-control, and thoughtful decision-making. Through engaging, physically active experiences, the program fosters a safe and inclusive environment where students grow emotionally and socially, building the confidence and integrity needed to navigate school and life. It also supports the development of pragmatic language and self-confidence, empowering students to engage in and independently manage social situations, while promoting emotional literacy by helping them recognise, express, and respond to feelings with empathy and connection.
