End of year Newsletter
This is our final newsletter for the year. We wish all our families a very Merry Christmas and we hope you have a lovely break. This year has been very challenging for all of us. To quote Queen Elizabeth it certainly has been an ‘annus horribilis’. We will all be glad to welcome 2022 and we are optimistic about the new year and the future. We do thank you for your resilience and gratitude throughout the year. Above all kindness has been the key for all.
Next year our focus areas will be on literacy, numeracy and wellbeing. This year has certainly made us all focus on core skills.
Most of all, we as a staff, say thank you so much for your kindness and support and the great job families have done with remote learning and staying positive. The silver lining has been the resilience and the growth in areas you might least expect.
Again, stay safe for the holidays. Enjoy the family and rest time and we look forward to seeing all students, Prep-6, on Monday 31st January. We will post information regarding the school start on Compass toward the end of the break.
End of year Activities
Graduation will be going ahead for year 6 with a mixed experience. Our year 6 families will join us on the Ellim-Atta on Monday 13th December for a ceremony to farewell our students and students will then attend a student dinner and student disco at the Knox Club. Anybody over the age of 12 who would like to attend our outdoor ceremony will need to be fully vaccinated, check in and show proof of vaccination.
We are planning class parties and a colour run before the end of the year. Class parties will be organised for Tuesday 14th December. Students will bring their own special lunch box of their favourite foods and teachers will organise fun activities appropriate to the age of the level.
The colour run will be organised and run by senior school students and will be held on Wednesday 15th December. We will be entrusting this to our senior students as a learning opportunity and we will not need volunteers on the day. The students can enjoy the activity together.
Uniform is compulsory at Ferntree Gully North. Take the holiday break opportunity to make sure your students are wearing the correct uniform. Year 6 children will need to wear proper uniform as all children will. Our uniform is structured to allow all children to play and participate in school activities appropriately. Visit Klad and size them up for anything needed. You can of course supplement uniforms with logos with extra polo tops etc. All our students attend secondary schools that have compulsory uniform, so it is good practice. Next year we do hope to organise some second hand uniforms as we get going.
Reports will be available on Compass on Friday 10th December. Please download and store, particularly year 6 families. If you have any questions regarding reports email your class teacher and they will organise a time to discuss. There will be a Compass post when the reports are ready.
2022 Prep Transition
We have had our half day prep transition on Tuesday this week and it was very successful. Our new students were in their 2022 classroom with their class and teacher. We followed up the session with a family picnic. Thank you to all our new families for supporting their children and their transition to school.
